Welcome to Webster Springs, West Virginia

 

In the July meeting of the Webster County Humane Society new officers were elected.  Carlene Cunningham had served as president since the formation of the WCHS but was resigning as she was moving out of the county, and I was elected as the new president. 

 

Carlene was the driving force behind the Webster County Humane Society.  She put her heart and soul into helping homeless pets find homes, educating the general public on the needs facing the community, and assisting low income households to have their pets spayed or neutered to help alleviate the problem of unwanted and abandoned animals.  We appreciate all that she has done to get the organization to where it is today.  She will be missed but has promised to keep in touch.

 

As time permits, I will be updating this site with more information about the Webster County Humane Society, including an application form for assistance from the spay/neuter program.  Applications can also be picked up at the bulletin boards at IGA in Webster Springs and Galaxy in Cowen.

 

 

For the month of September Applebee's of Summersville will be donating 15% of their Carside To Go sales on Mondays and Tuesdays to the Webster County Humane Society.  To help promote this event radio stations WAFD and WDBS will be doing live remotes at Applebee's and we will be attending with some adoptable pets. 

 

Yesterday was the first of four live remotes and we had a wonderful time.  Applebee's manager Rhonda was so friendly and gracious to us and did a great job when Al Sergi interviewed her on air.  All of the staff at Applebee's were friendly and helpful and showed a lot of interest in wanting to find homes for the pets we brought.  One young man who had just finished his shift there even adopted the puppy we brought.  Three kittens were also adopted by customers and friends of the staff.  We had fun and are happy to have found generous, caring people who want to help animals.  Two very cute young men (ages around 4-6) donated $1 each. 

 

The schedule for the remaining three live remotes is as follows:

If someone adopts one of our pets from the Applebee's promotion they will receive a coupon to cover the full cost of first shots (if needed) and spay or neuter of their new pet at the Nicholas Animal Hospital.  All Creatures Feed and Pet will also give a one time 10% discount on purchases if you bring your coupon to show you have adopted from us.

 

Thank you Applebee's, WDBS, WAFD, All Creatures, Nicholas Animal Hospital  and all who adopted or donated.  Your generosity has given us hope and helped to give homeless pets a chance to live, love and be loved.

 

 

The next scheduled meeting of the Webster County Humane Society will be 2:00pm Saturday August 29, 2009 at the Main Street Cafe in Webster Springs.  Please join us and get involved.  We need volunteers for all sorts of tasks, from fostering animals to manning the new shelter when it opens to just making phone calls and spreading the word about our organization.
